Friend Joan Grohe from Largo, who is from a small town outside of Pittsburgh, made two bets at Sunday's Rays-Pirates game that Pittsburgh will finish with more wins than Tampa Bay. GULP.
"I don't know anything about this new manager (John Russell), and there was some dissension from Jason Bay this winter," she said. "I haven't heard those kind of things before. But it doesn't matter -- they are still my team."
The vendor interrupts an early reverie by screaming "Roasted peanuts!" followed by water, cold beer and Cracker Jack. Does it still come with a prize inside?
The Pirates fail to score in the second when Kevin Thompson strikes out swinging on a 3-2 pitch with two men on base. Nice job by Phillies starter Joe Savery getting him to chase.
