Jason Varitek lines sharply to second baseman Josh Wilson, who makes a nice diving grab off the hop and fires to first for the out. Ortiz hits it almost as hard to the same spot but Wilson was in shift mode and had some time to react and make it look easy.
Nyjer Morgan finished off the inning, making a nice running grab to the right-center gap on a line drive from Manny Ramirez. The way Morgan wears his socks, looks and carries himself, it's like looking at a Juan Pierre clone from a distance. Pierre's best days are behind him, but he was a key member of the Marlins' last World Series team. He's still a pest when he gets on base, which is a little less often than usual. I have the think the Pirates would be pleased to have a Juan Pierre-type making far less than Juan Pierre-money for a few years.
Score: Red Sox 2, Pirates 1
