The second Japanese-born pitcher of the day, Masumi Kuwata, enters for the Pirates. Kuwata, who sprained an ankle last spring when he ran into an umpire, didn't fare well in his rookie season - he went 0-1 with a 9.43 ERA in 19 appearances.
He's been better this spring, having thrown three shutout innings entering today.
It's warm in the press box today. Lucky me, though, as I am working right in front of the cooler. So whenever someone wants a beverage, my ankles are hit with a blast of cool air. It's brief. But glorious.
Luis Rivas makes an over-the-shoulder catch on Ryan Khoury's bloop with runners on the corners, preserving the 2-2 tie.
