Local boy Steve Pearce's cheering section hasn't dimmed much - he draws pop star-type screams as he walks to the plate. Pearce, however, doesn't give them too much more to swoon about, as he strikes out for the second time, with this one coming against new Tiger pitcher Aquilino Lopez.
Doug Mientkiewicz, the Batting Glove-less wonder, doubles off the wall in right. But Ronny Paulion strikes out looking - six K's for Pittsburgh through five innings - and Chris Gomez pops out.
The punchless Pirates trail 5-0.
