Bryan Bullington is called on to replace Dumatrait, and his first batter is Ivan Rodriguez.
Welcome to the game, son!
Pudge, however, is a quick out, grounding out to third.
Whenever I watch a game, I wonder how many guys will one day be enshrined in Cooperstown.
Pudge is a definite - then again, this time last year, Roger Clemens was a definite, so this is the most inexact of sciences. But how about Detroit's Gary Sheffield? He's not playing, but he's swatted 480 home runs, won a World Series and has over 2,500 hits. He should go, too.
Steve Pearce may or may not get there, but he may be pressing in front of his hometown crowd. Aside from his two strikeouts, he misplayed Miguel Cabrera's triple last inning, and just flubbed Placido Polanco's fly ball to right.
Meanwhile, Brandon Inge just stopped a curveball with his head. But he's OK, and chooses to stay in the game.
With some help from a diving stab by third basemen Neil Walker, Bullington and the Pirates escape unscathed.
Tigers lead 5-0 after five.
