Forgot to point out that Steve entered the game at first base prior to the last half inning. Pearce was featured in the Bradenton Herald today, and it looked like he might fall victim to the Herald jinx as he bobbled the first ball knocked his way at first baseball. He recovered and made the out at first.
The Pirates brought much of the cream of their farm system today with Pearce and McCutchen. And I think that's Daniel Moskos who just led off the game with a double down the line. Moskos is the Pirates' most recent first round draft pick -- and a pitcher out of Clemson. Yes, I wrote pitcher. Not sure what's going on there, but I guess pitchers need swings, too. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Moskos takes the mound in bottom of the eighth.
Turns out Freddy Sanchez is still in the game. He has been the designated hitter all day, so I guess they want to make sure he gets his ABs until he can play every day in the field. Sanchez coaxed a walk. Then Kevin Thompson singled to left field, scoring Moskos. The roster says that's Moskos, but I'm still not sure and I can't see his face from here. He did bat left-handed.
The Pirates get a run. That's it as the we head to the bottom of the eighth with the Sox up by two runs.
Score: Red Sox 4, Pirates 2
