I have to think no two teams in baseball see each other more than Pirates and the Reds. They are in the same division in the regular season and they are twice-weekly dance partners down here in Florida. We should call this the Reds Live blog, too, because we do their games so much.
Joey Votto is not having a good day. He's a top prospect with a very good chance to make the team and one day be a star player, but he just made an error on a Mientkiewicz grounder that would have helped Josh Fogg escape a first and second jam. Instead it got by him. He might have been thinking DP. One run scored (McLouth) and Nyjer Morgan made it all the way to third with nobody out. Morgan scores on Doumit sac fly. Norris Hopper does not have a good arm in CF.
With runners Mientkiewicz on first and two outs Jose Bautista cracked a home run to left field, and the rout is on. The Pirates have not hit a lot of HRs this spring, but Bautista will be counted on to be one of the main sources of power this summer. If he doesn't produce, the Pirates are in for a long year.
Three of the runs Fogg allowed were unearned because of Votto's error.
