The lights are officially on here at McKechnie Field. Not sure when they clicked on, but I just noticed when I looked up between innings. Scott Hatteberg, professional hitter, led off with a line drive to center, but Nyjer Morgan was playing shallow, got a nice jump and made the play. Jeff Keppinger grounds out on the next pitch and we could have a very quick inning.
Fans can count on seeing the next guy up for many more springs at McKechnie Field. Jay Bruce, who you might know from the story I wrote about him a couple weeks ago or from the hype surrounding him from various other forms of media, made sure the inning kept going with hard liner up the middle. This was too low for Morgan to get to. Paul Bako followed with another liner up the middle. It's clear the Reds are right on Matt Morris this afternoon.
Morris escapes when Jay Bruce got caught a little too far off second base, and Ryan Doumit picks him off second base. That's tough to do all the way down their at second base from the catcher's spot.
