As spring-training starts go, this one might be fairly significant for Pirates left-hander Zach Duke. He was lit up by the Reds March 1, but rebounded five days later in relief by holding the Blue Jays to one hit with two strikeouts.
First-inning symmetry: David Eckstein doubles inside the third-base bag and moves to third on a fly to right by Alex Rios.
The wind that has been part and parcel of spring training is blowing out to right field.
Eckstein takes off on contact, scoring on a ground out to short by Vernon Wells. Plenty of room on the bases for Frank Thomas, but Duke battles from a 3-0 count to get a grounder to Jack Wilson.
The Blue Jays lead 1-0 after an inning.
