Bottom of the 9th

Wade Davis begins another inning in an attempt to nail this one shut.

Perhaps the crowd had no doubt - McKechnie's first sellout of the spring has thinned considerably, giving people a chance to squeeze some beach time into Sunday's this-is-why-I-live-in-Florida weather.

A flock of seagulls (Everybody now - And I ran, I ran so far away...) take advantage of the empty bleachers, bombarding into the stands in search of some discarded hot dog buns and peanut shells.

(At least I think that's what they are after. I've never lived through the eyes of a seagull).

The Pirates made it interesting for those who stuck around, loading the bases with none out and cutting the gap to 7-3 when Davis walked Jorge Velandia on four pitches. Davis is relieved by James Houser, who allows a pair of inherited runners to score.

But he retires Ronny Paulino, securing Tampa Bay's frantic 7-5 win.

Sound familiar, Rays fans?

This is John Lembo, signing off from McKechnie Field.
