A converted catcher who has been moved around more than a futon, Steve Pearce looks in right field when Ryan Raburn smacks a double off the top of the wall. Pearce gloves it on a hop and makes a strong throw to the infield.
Raburn's double scores Edgar Renteria, who reached on Chris Gomez's error.
That starts a rally.
Ivan Rodriguez singles in Raburn, and Placido Polanco's doubles moved Pudge to third.
All it took was one look at Dumatrait, and the Tigers start teeing off. Perhaps Dumatrait's days will be spent in the bullpen, where pitchers rarely face the same hitter twice over the course of the game.
Brandon Inge's sacrifice fly plates Pudge, but Magglio Ordonez's ground out ends the inning.
Detroit leads 3-0.
