Not sure if this irony or just odd. I interview Pirates starter Phil Dumatrait four or five years ago when he was pitching for the Sarasota Red Sox in the Florida State League. Back then he was an up-and-coming first-round draft pick. He was a nice guy, but his career has been derailed a bit by injury. It's odd because he's facing his old organization trying to earn a job with a few guys he might have played with coming up. Guess there are a lot of stories like that in spring training. Dumatrait retired Jaboby Ellsbury, Jason Varitek and David Ortiz in order. Not bad, but Manny, Lowell and Drew await in the second inning. Not a bad lineup for a spring game in early March.
