It's up to first baseman Curtis Thigpen, left fielder Wayne Lydon and third baseman Sergio Sanchez to protect a 7-5 Jays lead and make for an enjoyable return trip to Dunedin.
For their part, the Pirates' scrubeenies are cooperating.
Velandia's bid for a three-hit game was denied on a diving catch by Lydon. Dunedin's pleasures beckon.
Andrew McCutchen, who is slumping this spring, just smashed a ball down the third-base line that sent third-base coach Tony Beasley applecart over teakettle. It's the hardest ball McCutchen has hit in a few days.
McCutchen is frozen by a Davis curve for strike three, and it's 7-5 bad guys moving on.
