Nate McLouth (who is not Irish) is running neck-and-neck with Nyjer Morgan for the Pirates' starting center-field job, according to general manager Neal Huntington.
McLouth popped out, but shortstop David Eckstein battled the wind before making the catch and going to his knees.
As a spectator, you can't worry too much about the wind when it's pushing 80 degrees. This is about as nice a day as you could want for exhibition baseball.
According to manager John Russell, designated hitter Freddy Sanchez should play second base for the first time this spring Tuesday against the Reds in Sarasota or Wednesday night against the Yankees.
Sanchez works a walk, bringing up left fielder Jason Bay.
Say hello this spring to Steve Blass in the Pirates' radio booth. He's the guy who won Game 7 of the 1971 World Series, throttling the Orioles (Frank Robinson, Boog Powell and Brooks Robinson) 2-1.
Bay walks, bringing up Adam LaRoche. He had two doubles Sunday and is batting .321 as he looks to avoid the slow starts that have been an issue.
Burnett is throwing a lot of pitches.
LaRoche grounds to second, and the scoreless streak against starters goes on.
