The Pirates have made a dent. They string together three singles off new Yankee pitcher Jeff Karstens, and take a 1-0 lead on Jason Bay's hit. Bay, however, is later thrown out at the plate on Ryan Doumit's single to center.

I guess all Pittsburg had to do was shake loose of Moose - since Mussina left, the Pirates have perked up. But Karstens - who looks a lot like Shelly Duncan - minimizes the damage when he gets Chris Gomez to ground out with the bases loaded.

Stretch time here at Legends, and the Pirates lead 1-0.
