Who knows the last time Mike Mussina entered a spring having no shot of being the Opening Day starter?
That's the scenario in 2008. After a rough '07 - he went 11-10 with a 5.15 ERA and lost his spot in the rotation - Mussina is no longer an ace, a role now owned by righty Chien-Ming Wang. Andy Pettitte will be second in command, followed perhaps by Phil Hughes or Ian Kennedy - the latter of whom took Mussina's spot last summer.
Today, however, Mussina has turned the time machine back to his prime. Nate McLouth grounds out to Duncan at first, and Mussina has tossed four perfect innings.
No score.
