It's crowed up here in the press box. All this press must have really wanted to see these lights. I expect a front-page piece in the New York Times tomorrow. Or maybe they are just here for the boys in navy blue.
Jeter just got robbed by Freddy Sanchez, who is playing his first game at 2B this spring. An injury has limited him to DH duty thus far but he was pronounced ready on Tuesday. He was originally was scheduled to start at 2B Tuesday at Ed Smith, but he asked for one more day.
Sanchez must like to play under the lights. Lead-off man Brett Gardner reached on a Matty Mo error and ended up scoring when Bobby Abreu singled him home from second.
A-Rod singles Abreu, who stole second, home. Morris is getting hit a little bit tonight. It strikes me that he's never pitched in the American League. Cards, Giants and Pirates. There were rumors the Yanks might acquire him last year around the trade deadline, but even the super-rich Yankees had to think twice about taking on Morris' hefty 12-plus mill price tag. Giambi and Posada single to load the bases.
That's eight hits for the Yanks. Matsui hits another hit shot to right to score A-Rod and keep the wheel in motion. Morris might be out of here in a minute. Wilson Betemit makes it 6-3 with a sac fly to CF, scoring Giambi.
The inning ends on a hot shot to Jack Wilson.
