This Reds relief pitcher, Jon Adkins, started Game 1 of the 1996 College World Series for Oklahoma State. The 30-year-old right-hander is settling in, retiring Bay and LaRoche but giving up a single to Paulino.
One Pittsburgh writer expects Steve Pearce to show enough this spring to claim the starting right-field job and allow the Pirates to trade Xavier Nady for prospects. Pearce -- who just reached on an error -- hasn't done much to change this guy's thinking, with a .333 average, three home runs, a triple and eight RBIs.
