Halladay, indeed, was the epitome of efficiency -- five innings, four hits allowed, four strikeouts and 64 pitches, 44 for strikes.
Tough act for Jason Frasor to follow.
McCutchen singles to start the inning, and his large lead off first is a message to Frasor, who throws over a couple of times to keep him close.
He's going on a 1-1 pitch, but Chris Gomez fouls it off.
Gomez pops to short and McCutchen still is on first.
It's still cat-and-mouse between Frasor and McCutchen with Nady trying to snap out of his funk.
Finally, McCutchen steals second as easy as he pleases on a 1-2 pitch. Let's see if Nady can produce. I'm not sure how he talk that pitch, but it's now a 3-2 count.
After fouling one back, Nady works a walk to bring up Paulino.
Nice breaking pitch by Frasor to strike out Paulino, leaving it up to Walker to get the Pirates on the board.
But Frasor gets him to go fishing twice, and we're on to the bottom of the sixth with the Pirates having scored a single run (in three games) since returning from the Billy Crystal Show in Tampa on Thursday.
