Part-time Manatee County resident and former Ray Casey Fossum heads to the mound for the Pirates. The first guy he faces is Jay Bruce. Bruce strikes out. Melvin Dorta comes in to the game to play second for the Pirates. Dorta played a while back with the Sarasota Red Sox. He was about 19 then and I did a story on him. He didn't have a car and he was waiting for his girlfriend to pick him up and take him home. Dorta was fairly new to the country from Venezuela back then. I wonder how his life is different today. After Andy Green gets hit by a pitch, Scott Hatteberg makes his second trip to teh plate. Hatteberg, a veteran hitter, is hitting .382 as he tries to keep his spot from Votto. Votto is the future, but if the Reds think they can win the division this year, which they have a right to think, then Hatteberg might be the better option. He walks. Another thing Hatteberg does well is work the count and take a lot of walks.
Fossum has loaded the bases with two down, but Ryan Hanigan grounded out to Jorge Velandia to end the inning.
