Starting lineups

Here are the starting lineups for the Pirates-Rays game at McKechnie Field.

Rays

1. Ben Zobrist, 2b
2. Eric Hinske, lf
3. B.J. Upton, cf
4. Cliff Floyd, dh
5. Jonny Gomes, rf
6. Evan Longoria, 3b
7. Shawn Riggans, c
8. Joel Guzman, 1b
9. Andy Cannizaro, ss
Jeff Neimann, P

Upton, followed by Floyd, followed by Gomes, followed by Longoria - that's a pretty meaty heart of an order. And just think how imposing this lineup would be if Carlos Pena and Carl Crawford were in there. I'm a little disapppointed I won't get to see Crawford, who I consider one of the top 10 best all-around players in the game. But I've heard nothing but raves about Longoria, so that should make up for it.

Pirates

1. Jack Wilson, ss
2. Doug Mientkiewicz, 3b
3. Jason Bay, lf
4. Ryan Doumit, c
5. Xavier Nady, rf
6. Ronny Paulino, dh
7. Steven Pearce, 1b
8. Chris Gomez, 2b
9. Kevin Thompson, cf
Tom Gorzelanny, P

Scratched from starting Thursday's spring opener because of minor shoulder irritation, Gorzelanny makes his spring debut today. The lefty was impressive last season, posting 14 wins - the most by a Pittsburgh southpaw since Denny Neagle won 14 in 1996 - and a 3.88 ERA. Mientkiewicz, a Gold Glove first baseman, is at third today. His only previous work at the hot corner was in 2003, when he played an inning there for the Minnesota Twins.
